Join us for an evening of original music with Realization Orchestra members Robert Gordon and STATE OF THE ART resident artist Eliot Eidelman. Gordon and Eidelman will each play a solo set of new songs and together will realize the instrumental music of Realization Orchestra in a stripped-down duo arrangement for electric bass and guitar.
Realization Orchestra was started at CalArts in 2009 by Eliot Eidelman and Evan Backer, under the mentorship of trumpeter/composer Wadada Leo Smith. Led by Eidelman, the group self-released the album REALIZATION on vinyl, ran an independent music venue (Val Verde Concert Hall), and toured California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada extensively between 2011 and 2012 in various formats as a sextet, quintet, quartet, trio and Soviet silent film accompaniment troupe.
The core membership of Eidelman and Backer has remained active, collaborating on the score for Eidelman’s 16mm film MORNING VORTEX in 2013 and his 2014 releases, THE SHINING EP and THE CALIFORNIA SUN album. Gordon, who played bass in the classic sextet line-up and on the A WAY IN recording in Spring 2012, has been residing and performing in Berlin since Summer 2013.
