California is the last refuge of today’s utopian dreamers. Even outside of the dream factories of Los Angeles, the Californian desert is filled with the leftovers and ruins of social experiments – and it is still attracting dropouts and artists alike.
In its first exhibition cycle – “California Screenings” – STATE OF THE ART will explore the interrelations between the city of L.A., the strange non-place of the desert and utopian dreaming in contemporary art. We will present screenings, performances and talks featuring ongoing projects from California by young and upcoming artists.
“California Screenings” takes place in weekly sessions during the months of July and September 2014 (every Thursday, 8 pm).
